Introduction

This is the absolute last in my cheap and cheerful Christmas gifting series – Christmas Crack.

I was shocked at how easy this recipe is, how much it makes and how incredibly delicious it is.

I know it’s called Christmas Crack because of the snapping of the finished product, but I’m just sayin’ there’s another valid reason to call it that…

I made mine with white chocolate and the beautiful festive sprinkles sent to me by my fabulous friend, but I also made this decadent dark chocolate and sea salt version.

You can make both of these for under $15 in total, which works out to around 30 cents per serve.

Go on, you know you want to!

If you make a batch, I’d love to hear how it turned out and if you free-styled the ingredients to make your own masterpiece!

The recipe

Ingredients

14 Sao crackers (half a packet)
200 grams brown sugar
125 grams butter
375 grams white/dark chocolate melts
Festive sprinkles/sea salt

Directions

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 180°
Step 2
Lightly grease and line a brownie tin with baking paper.
Step 3
Lay the Sao crackers evenly over the base of the tin, cutting the last couple to fit.
Step 4
Place the brown sugar and butter into a saucepan over medium heat until the butter has melted and the sugar has dissolved.
Step 5
Increase the heat to high and bring to the boil.
Step 6
Boil hard, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes.
Step 7
Pour the hot sauce over the crackers and bake in the oven for 5 min until the caramel sauce is bubbly.
Step 8
Scatter the chocolate bits over the hot surface and let sit for 1 min until they are melting.
Step 9
Carefully spread out evenly over the top and let cool slightly before sprinkling with your finishing garnish of choice.
Step 10
Let it set at room temperature for 2-4 hours before removing from the pan and cracking into pieces.
Step 11
Gift in a simple box or tin.
